The Story

The SwitchBlade started with a referral. Jeff and Denise came to me through Elevated Power Sports, a local shop I do custom UTV and dirt bike work for. They had a Sea-Doo Switch and wanted a way to run a trolling motor without drilling into the boat — the Switch is largely plastic, and once you drill it, that's permanent. They also needed to be able to trailer without pulling the motor every time. Nobody made something that did both.

So I made one. They loved it, posted about it in a Sea-Doo Facebook group, and things got out of hand fast. I was fielding 10 to 15 messages a day from Switch owners who wanted the same thing. I built a website just to keep up with the requests. That's how this became a product company.

From April through September I'm running 60 to 80 hour weeks to stay ahead of demand. Each SwitchBlade is 9 fully machined parts — there are no shortcuts in the process. Keeping material on hand is honestly one of the harder parts of the job. The product has also gotten better over time because customers tell me what they need, and I listen.

I've been machining for about ten years. I got into it because I wanted to make cool things — and the way into that was building my own CNC router from scratch over six months. That router led to better equipment, better skills, and eventually a real shop. Upgrade Machine Works has been running full-time since 2018 out of Billings, Montana. None of it would have happened without my family supporting me through every late night and learning curve along the way.

Every SwitchBlade ships from the same shop where it was designed, programmed, and machined. You're not buying from a warehouse. You're buying from the guy who made it.

The Shop

Upgrade Machine Works is a professional CNC machine shop, not a garage operation. Every product is machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum on industrial Haas CNC equipment — built to tight tolerances, every time.

We run Haas CNC mills as our production workhorses. Parts are programmed in Fusion 360 CAM and held to tight tolerances. When you get a SwitchBlade, it fits the way it's supposed to fit — because it was made that way, not assembled from off-the-shelf hardware.

What We Make

The Sea-Doo Switch product line is our flagship. The SwitchBlade trolling motor mount is the centerpiece, but the full lineup covers everything you need to turn a Switch into a serious fishing platform — downrigger mounts, no-drill multi-function mounting hardpoints, shaft support brackets, and more. Every part is designed specifically for the Switch, tested on the water, and built to outlast the boat.

Beyond the Switch line, Upgrade Machine Works takes on custom work that most shops turn away — movie car replica parts, EDC and knife accessories, prototypes, one-off mechanical components, and small-batch production runs. If you've got a part that's complex, unusual, or just needs to be done right, we're worth a call.

  • Every part is made to order — not pulled from a shelf. Your order goes into the machine.
  • We use billet 6061-T6 aluminum throughout. No cast parts, no shortcuts on material.
  • No drilling, no permanent modifications to your boat. Everything bolts on and can come off clean.
  • 10 business day lead time because we machine each order individually. That's a quality standard, not a delay.
  • When you call or email, you talk to Nate — the same person who designed and machined your part.
